Centering the Margins is an intimate online forum for art professionals and creative emerging artists. GROUNDSWELL is the fifth event of its kind in the Centering the Margins series focusing on the experiences of Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) artists, in our own words.
We invite you to join us for Centering the Margins: GROUNDSWELL on Tuesday, June 13, 2023 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. CDT. This session will focus on the topic of synthesizing what we know. Our purpose is to connect BIPOC community artists and our allies by sharing our stories in an open space. The series also creates an opportunity to build solidarity within communities locally, regionally, and nationally.
BIPOC artists are creating art across many communities with little to no access to resources, such as opportunities for compensation for our talents, or being known outside our local networks. The series aims to create an online space where BIPOC artists and creatives can connect and share space—expanding the support networks that can be very difficult for artists to form.
The event is hosted by The DB Approach with Diane Burkholder and Desiree Kane.
This event is made possible with support from the Mid-America Arts Alliance’s Artist Services division, which explores how to bridge gaps across regional and socioeconomic divides by building community with a grassroots focus.
