Welcome to Mid-America Arts Alliance’s events calendar, where you’ll find workshops, grants, and other opportunities for artists and arts organizations in M-AAA’s six-state region of Arkansas, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Texas, and beyond.
Over the past year, 16 Interchange Fellows have gathered to explore and develop the professional aspects of their socially-engaged creative practices. Fellows are completing the program with a regional network of peer artists and the strategic framework to manage enduring artistic careers. The Interchange Program concludes with a public-facing event with program fellows sharing their work and discussing the field of social practice.
The Social Practice In Conversation event includes individual WorkShare presentations by each of the fellows followed by a panel discussion over the challenges and rewards of an artistic social practice.
Each fellow will give a 5-minute WorkShare presentation that highlights their socially-engaged creative practice.
The following panel discussion is an opportunity for artist reflection and connection across geographies and identities. Using their own practice as a starting point, Interchange artists will engage in a broader conversation among themselves and with the audience about social practice across the Mid-America Arts Alliance region.
This event will take place in person on Saturday, August 9th at the Charlotte Street Foundation’s Black Box Theater, on 3333 Wyoming St., in Kansas City, MO from 2:00 pm – 6:00 pm and is open to the public. WorkShare presentations will run from 2:00 to 4:00 pm, there will be a 30 minute break for informal discussion and the panel discussion will follow from 4:30 to 6:00 pm. Attendees are welcome to attend any portion or all of the event.
