Oklahoma’s Lawson is M-AAA’s New Board Chair
This November, Tulsa, Oklahoma’s Holbrook Lawson began her tenure as Chair of the Board of Directors of Mid-America Arts Alliance. M-AAA’s Board of Directors includes members from all six M-AAA states: Arkansas, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma, and Texas. Lawson replaces Nebraska’s Richard Vierk, who will now serve as Past Chair.
Lawson joined the M-AAA Board in 2014, when she was appointed Chair of the Oklahoma Arts Council and has served in officer positions as both Secretary and Chair of the Strategic Planning committee. Her term as Board Chair is four years. She was pivotal in creating M-AAA’s current five-year strategic plan that includes M-AAA’s upcoming fiftieth anniversary in FY22.
As she assumes her role as Chair, Lawson says, “I am pleased to be a part of a stable, forward-thinking, accomplished, and purpose-driven art organization. M-AAA has tremendous momentum, and the future is exciting.”
A member of the Delaware Tribe, Lawson is a private art consultant and advisor for Holbrook Campbell Lawson, LLC. She holds a doctorate in curriculum and instruction from the University of North Texas, a Master’s degree from the University of Texas–Austin, and a Bachelor’s degree from Vanderbilt University. Lawson is active as a city art commissioner for the Tulsa Arts Commission and through service to various civic and arts organizations in OklahomaShe has been President/Chair of the Boards for the Oklahoma Arts Council, The Philbrook Museum of Art, Ruskin Art Club, Tulsa’s City Art Commission, and Tulsa’s Family & Children’s Services.
